What to do when you have been injured in a car accident

Rehabilitation with ICBC and Pursuit Physiotherapy

Initial Assessment

Your recovery begins with a detailed assessment from our team of physiotherapists and chiropractor. During your first visit, we will:

  • Review your medical history, including details of your car accident, to understand the nature of your injuries.

  • Assess your mobility, strength, posture, and any areas of pain, discomfort, or dysfunction.

  • Conduct a full physical exam, which may include specialized tests to identify the impact of the accident on your musculoskeletal system.

  • Develop a personalized treatment plan that combines physiotherapy and chiropractic care to best address your injuries and recovery goals.

Treatment Plan and Follow ups

Following your initial assessment, our team will provide you with a tailored treatment plan that may include a combination of physiotherapy and chiropractic care. Treatment options may involve:

  • Physiotherapy: Techniques such as manual therapy, exercise prescription, stretching, and modalities to promote healing, reduce pain, and restore function.

  • Chiropractic Care: Spinal adjustments and manual manipulation to address joint restrictions, improve alignment, and reduce pain. Our Victoria Chiropractor will focus on optimizing spinal health and relieving musculoskeletal pain, which is often a key component of recovery after a car crash. Treatment may also include Soft Tissue manipulation to release tension and alleviate muscle spasms that are common following an accident.

If additional sessions are required, our team will work with ICBC to request extensions and ensure continued coverage for your treatments.

Follow-ups and Monitoring Progress

As you progress in your recovery, our team will regularly monitor your condition to ensure you're on the right track. During follow-up appointments, we will:

  • Reassess your physical condition and treatment progress to adjust your plan as needed.

  • Incorporate additional therapies or adjust the frequency of sessions based on your healing progress.

  • Communicate with ICBC to report progress and make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. Regular attendance of your scheduled sessions is essential to maintaining ICBC coverage and maximizing your recovery.

Return to Work & Daily Activities

Your physiotherapist and chiropractor will collaborate to help you return to your normal activities safely. This phase may include:

  • Developing a graduated return-to-work program that aligns with your physical capabilities.

  • Modifying job duties or adjusting your workload to accommodate any ongoing limitations.

  • Continuing exercises and strategies to strengthen and and improve mobility as you transition back to your regular routine.

Sometimes recovery doesn’t go as smoothly as planned. If you experience any setbacks or feel that you are not improving as expected, communicate with your physiotherapist or chiropractor and they will work together with ICBC to ensure your full recovery.
